Winner of 1939 Halloween Costume Contest

This is the winner of the 1939 Halloween Masquerade Contest in Osage Farms, Missouri. The person appears to be dressed as an old woman. Nowadays, it seems like dressing up on Halloween is more popular than ever.

In 2008, the average person spent $66.54 on costumes, candy, decorations, etc. I know some people who spend hundreds of dollars just on candy treats to hand out and they still end up running out before the night is over. I liked it better when Halloween was much simpler and it was easy to scrounge together a costume from old clothes and props you had around the house.
