Creepy kids Halloween costumes from the 1940s

This is just all kinds of creepy. Flickr user SteveChasmar has a plethora of great old Halloween pictures like this and this one is one of the creepier ones I have seen. Back in the 1940s or 1950s masks such as these were made from painted gauze.

These are SO much better than the plastic masks with the cheap elastic string that would snap before a night of trick-or-treating was finished. Perhaps it’s the materials used or just the black and white photo that embellishes the creepy factor here. I’m not sure, but I just love this photo.
