At first glance you might think this is a cathedral and not a government building. In fact, the Old Post Office Pavilion was criticized for looking like a cathedral upon its completion in 1899. One of the neat things about this photo is that you can see the Washington Monument in the background just in case you didn’t know this was in Washington, D.C.

Fortunately, this building still stands today in spite of its critics thanks to preservation efforts over the years.
