This 1907 photo shows a Detroit Electric Car Company automobile having its battery charged up. Electric and hybrid vehicles are all in the news these days, but they aren’t anything new. At the turn of the century when the automobile was taking off the electric powered vehicle was one of the early alternatives to the internal combustion engine.
It’s limited range (hmm, they’re still working on that over 100 years later) and low speed of 20 m.p.h. tops were factors that contributed to its demise.
