With another edition of the World Series starting up this week I thought I would take this week to feature baseball-themed photos. The 1924 World Series was the only (as of 2010) championship for the Washington Senators.
Walter Johnson was the story of Game 7. After losing two complete games earlier in the series, he stepped in with one day of rest to pitch in relief in the 9th inning of Game 7 and the score tied. Johnson pitched four scoreless innings and collected the win when the Senators scored in the bottom of the 12th inning.
Walter Johnson’s story and hundreds of others are brilliantly told in Ken Burns’ excellent documentary ‘Baseball.’ The new edition includes the recently broadcast Tenth Inning.
