About
van-ish: To pass completely from existence
Amer-i-can-a: materials concerning or characteristic of America, its civilization, or its culture
Every day it seems as though another landmark (historic or not) is torn down to make way for a parking garage or some other creation. Things such as roadside diners and drive-in movies fall into disrepair. America keeps changing for better or worse and bits and pieces of the past fade away into oblivion.
I started this blog with the intention of providing a place where folks can sit back and sift through nostalgic Americana. Pictures, videos, books, and other items that might otherwise be forgotten will have a home here. I scour the public domain and take care to only use items with no known copyright restrictions.
So sit back, enjoy, and feel free to send ideas or items that I can post here.

Hello!
Great website!
I’m an Editor at Beforeitsnews.com, a rapidly growing people powered website. We are getting over 3 million visitors a month.
We would be honored if we could republish your RSS feed at B4IN. Many other sites are using us to get out their message and grow their own audiences and businesses.
If you are interested, please email me and we’ll set up Vanished Americana’s RSS feed into our system so that whenever you post here, it will also come to us.
Thanks for the great work! I’m sure that our audience would love it. Hope to hear back from you soon!
Peace to You!

Thank you so much for creating this lovely website. It’s really great to see and remember our country in its glory days.
We’re really interested in using a photo that you posted of Louis B Mayer. Can you tell me what the copyright restrictions are on that photo? Thanks
No copyright restrictions at all on the Louis B. Mayer photograph
Hi! I really like the image “Farmer listening to radio while milking cow – 1923″ and my Wisconsin bluegrass band would love to be able to use it- could you tell me about the copyright restrictions on the image and whether there is a higher resolution version available somewhere? Many thanks!
Russ
Hi Russ! All of the images I post here are in the public domain. Here is the link to the image at the Library of Congress – http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2006676363/
